Dia Duit and may the road rise up to meet you! Recently a close friend of mine asked what is the best way to keep my furniture looking pristine. I’ll try to make it as brief as I can for ye:

  • Pre-Vacuum: Begin by using a vacuum cleaner with an upholstery attachment to remove loose dirt, dust, and debris from the fabric surface. This step prevents these particles from embedding further during the cleaning process.
  • Spot Treatment: Identify any stains or spills on the upholstery and treat them promptly. Use appropriate stain removers like Kelly Cleaning’s Lucky Charm. Test on a small, inconspicuous area before applying them to the stain directly.
  • Steam Cleaning: Use a steam cleaner specifically designed for upholstery cleaning. This method utilizes hot water vapor to deeply penetrate the fabric, loosening dirt, bacteria, and allergens. These can be quite pricey for the hot water equipment
  • Drying: Allow the upholstery to dry completely before using the furniture. Open windows or use fans to expedite the drying process. Avoid sitting on the furniture until it is completely dry to prevent any potential damage.

Avoid the Bugs

There is nothing more annoying than getting bug bites and when spending time outdoors, dealing with pesky bugs can be a nuisance. Discover the best strategies to keep bugs at bay and enjoy your time outside bug-free.
  • Wear Protective Clothing: One of the most effective ways to repel bugs is to cover up exposed skin. Wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and socks to minimize areas insects can bite. Opt for light-colored clothing to make it more difficult for bugs to spot you.
  • Apply Insect Repellent: Use an EPA-approved insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus on exposed skin and clothing. Follow the instructions and reapply as necessary. Avoid applying repellent to cuts, wounds, or irritated skin.
  • Choose the Right Time: Bugs are most active during dawn and dusk. Plan your outdoor activities accordingly, scheduling them for midday or when the sun is at its highest point to minimize encounters with insects.
  • Eliminate Standing Water: Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water. Regularly empty and clean containers, such as flower pots or birdbaths, that may collect water. Remove sources of standing water from your outdoor area.
  • Use Citronella Candles or Torches: Citronella oil has natural insect-repellent properties. Light citronella candles or torches in your outdoor space to create a mosquito-repelling effect. Place them strategically to maximize their effectiveness.
