Restoring Outdoor Furniture After Fire & Coastal Fog

Recent fires in LA and Ventura County left many homeowners dealing with ash and soot stains on their outdoor furniture upholstery. One of our recent customers, living near the coast, faced a double challenge—soot-covered cushions that were also constantly damp due to the coastal fog. Over time, the moisture led to deep-seated grime and potential mildew growth.

Kelly Cleaning was called in to restore their outdoor furniture. Since the cushion covers were non-removable, we performed a thorough steam cleaning to extract all the dirt, soot, and moisture. To ensure long-lasting protection, the customer also requested our upholstery protection service. This involves applying a UV and Water Repellent solution that not only shields against sun damage but also prevents moisture from penetrating the cushion stuffing. The protective treatment makes water bead up on the fabric’s surface, reducing the risk of mold and mildew.

Step 1: Remove the oven racks and soak them in hot, soapy water for a few hours to loosen grease and grime.
Step 2: Mix baking soda with water to create a thick paste.
Step 3: Spread the paste generously inside the oven, avoiding heating elements.
Step 4: Let it sit overnight to break down stubborn grease and residue.
Step 5: Wipe away the dried paste with a damp cloth.
Step 6: For extra-stubborn spots, use a mild abrasive like Bar Keepers Friend or a pumice stone. If ya don’t have these handy, swing by the Kelly Tech Center for top-quality oven cleaning products.
Step 7: Finish by wiping everything down with warm water for a sparkling finish.
